Melville and Jonah's Journey
This is the 5.5’ foot clay model, which has been scanned, and will be enlarged and cast as a 7.5’ figure and placed on a granite ring, which will be inscribed with the hymn from Chapter 9 of Moby Dick (The ribs and terrors in the whale, arched over me a dismal gloom… ). It will be installed next to the iconic Seaman’s Bethel in New Bedford, MA.

The wind blows around the entire figure, following the motion of the ribs, creating a sense of conflict and energy. Melville is enveloped.
