This piece consists of three carved wooden figures and four pre-fabricated nesting eggs. The first, largest figure is a ballet dancer, in full, delightful flight. His goodness is on overt display; he is performing for his audience. He upholds the progressive American way. But as we move further inside his head, we see that he is angry, stubborn, and not quite as beautiful as we first thought. Still further inside his head, we see him crawling about, depraved and desperate; his female victims are trapped below him. The fourth, and smallest egg is cracked and solid with rot. Ultimately, despite all of his progressive gesticulations, we know that this is a very small man.
This first figure flies over a field of daises (acrylic on a wooden board). The boards are not joined. Each board is 18” long and 10” wide. The first figure is 16” high, and about 10” long.
The daisies under the first figure morph into female faces under the second figure. The second figure stands on their faces. They morph into full bodies under the third figure, seen here. His belly leaves a yellow, permanent trail. He has no eyes, but gropes his way along.
Watch a short stop-motion animation of how this piece moves. The last egg spirals frantically in place.
