Title
Biker Head
(part of a 3-part sculpture, The Triathlete.
Click here to see plans (this piece is sold))

Although the carving portion of this head is complete, part of the neck will eventually be cut off.. Afterwards, the head will be mounted on a 24" x 47" back plate (black walnut), over a set of arms holding triathlete handlebars. Finally, the entire piece will be set, at an angle, in an alcove (see plans). I will do this after I finish the biker's arms and The Swimmer (the runner's leg has already been completed)

Date of Completion
April, 2005

Wood
New York State Basswood

Carving Difficulty
Relatively easy. However, once again, this wood was green when I started.

Size
Lifesize.

Keep in mind that the color is slightly off in these top two pictures (better shots will be posted as soon as they are available). The wood is not so mottled in the actual piece, and the bottom of the chin has a whitish cast; this is not a knot, but the heart (the center) of the wood.
See detail shots of this piece (note the other end of the heart of the wood, towards the back of the helmet)
