Stages 6-7. In these stages I begin to push the detail out still more. The ribs start to emerge in Stage 7. The piece looks discolored because as I work, I use wood oil. It softens the wood, making it much easier to carve.

Stages 8-9. Here, I have begun to work the stand out. Once again, I use wood oil to soften the piece. I have also started to sand in places. I will finish the piece with 2000 grade sandpaper, after multiple coats of wood oil and 3 coats of poly on the figure.
