Title
Biker Arms
(part of a 3-part sculpture, The Triathlete.

Although the carving portion is complete, the back of the arms and the handlebar stem will be cut at an angle. Afterwards, the entire piece will be mounted on a 24" x 47" back plate (black walnut), under the Biker Head. Finally, the entire piece will be set, at an angle, in an alcove (see plans). I will do this after I finish The Swimmer (The Runner has already been completed)

Date of Completion
September, 2005

Wood
New York State Basswood

Carving Difficulty
Relatively easy. This piece of wood sat outside for about 4 months before I started to carve it, as a result, cracking was minimal. However, as whole, it was a fairly complex sculpture, given the nature of the handlebars.

Size
Lifesize.

See this piece as it was being made

You are looking into the center of tree here; the finger portions of the fists were carved cross-grain, making for the circular pattern that you see.
The dark parts of the middle handlebars comprise the heart
(the center) of the wood.
